After Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Karan Johar to Direct a Big-Budget Web Series

Karan Johar

Karan Johar is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated directors in Indian cinema, boasting a perfect track record with iconic films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna,  My Name Is Khan, Student of the Year, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. After creating blockbuster content for the big screen, it’s been exclusively revealed that Karan Johar is now stepping into the world of web series with a grand project.

According to sources close to the development, this new venture is a subject very close to Karan’s heart and will feature leading female stars of Indian cinema. “Following Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s success with  HeeraMandi, Karan’s directorial web series is shaping up to be the next flagship project. He will take on the role of showrunner for this yet-to-be-titled series. The script is locked, and the plan is to begin production in early 2025,” said a source familiar with the project.

Karan has been deeply involved in developing the storyline with his team and is eager to debut in the digital space. “The series is now entering the casting phase, and the goal is to assemble a stellar ensemble cast. Given Karan Johar’s involvement, this is set to be one of the most ambitious upcoming projects in the digital world. Filming is expected to continue throughout 2025, with the release planned for 2026,” the source added.

After wrapping up the web series, Karan is expected to dive into his eighth theatrical directorial, which is rumored to be a magnum opus in the action genre. Meanwhile, his production house, Dharma Productions, is busy with several high-profile films, including  Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, a courtroom drama featuring Akshay Kumar and Ananya Panday, and Sunny Sanskari ki Tulsi Kumari, directed by Shashank Khaitan and starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, among others.
