In Amazon miniTV’s latest release, Naam Namak Nishan, Varun Sood takes on the challenging role of Yuvraj Singh Chauhan, an army cadet, showcasing an extraordinary transformation both physically and mentally.
Sood, who was previously known for his more robust physique, revealed that preparing for this role required him to shed 16 kilograms. “It was quite a challenge,” Sood admitted. “I had to let go of many of my favorite foods to achieve the physique of a cadet. The change was necessary to portray the role authentically.”
To delve deeper into the mindset of young soldiers, Sood sought guidance from his father, a former cadet himself. “I spent a lot of time talking to my dad to grasp how young individuals can exhibit such profound patriotism and willingness to sacrifice for their country,” Sood explained. “Understanding the discipline, interactions with seniors, and the hierarchy within the academy was crucial.”
Sood also emphasized the significance of immersing himself in the real-world environment of the Officers Training Academy. “Meeting actual officers and cadets, and receiving direct feedback about their daily lives and mental states, was invaluable,” he said. “Being surrounded by those who live this life provided me with a deeper understanding of the character I was portraying.”
Through this intense preparation, Varun Sood aims to bring an authentic and respectful portrayal of the dedication and sacrifice embodied by young army cadets.
