After a four-month battle with the Censor Board, Anshuman Jha’s directorial debut “Lord Curzon Ki Haveli” has finally been cleared — but with an ‘A’ certificate and mandated cuts, leaving the makers disappointed and frustrated.
Despite being an adults-only film, the CBFC objected to a female character using a curse word with a gender-specific prefix and demanded it be muted — a move Jha called inconsistent and unfair. The film’s 50-50 Hindi-English dialogue also raised eyebrows with the board, adding to the friction.
A stylish black comedy thriller about identity and immigration, “Lord Curzon Ki Haveli” has already made waves globally, winning Jha Best Director at the UK Asian Film Festival and Rasika Dugal the “Star of Asia” award in Chicago. It was also the only Indian selection at the prestigious Razor Reel Flanders 2024 in Europe.
Starring Arjun Mathur, Rasika Dugal, Paresh Pahuja, and Tanmay Dhanania, the film is also the first Indian movie shot entirely on a single 35mm lens — a daring cinematic tribute to Alfred Hitchcock, praised by French cinematographer Jean Marc Selva.
Produced by Golden Ratio Films, Adya Films UK, and First Ray Films, the movie is now finally gearing up for release in India.
