Chiyaan Vikram’s Thangalaan Gains Traction in Its Second Week, Poised to Become a Sleeper Hit?

The release of Thangalaan has undoubtedly made waves. With its captivating storyline and stellar performances, the film has quickly become a sensation in the South, surpassing the 100 Crore mark at the box office. Fueled by strong word-of-mouth, the film sparked significant interest from exhibitors in the North, leading to its Hindi release and a solid debut.

In its second week, Thangalaan in Hindi is seeing a notable increase in screen count, expanding by 150 screens compared to its initial release. This growth reflects the film’s rising popularity and positive reviews. As a result, it is emerging as a sleeper hit in the North.

Film exhibitor Akshay Rathi remarked, “Despite a limited initial release, Thangalaan is gaining traction. Its performance is strengthening, and the word of mouth is likely to spread, attracting more viewers.”

Thangalaan continues the tradition of South Indian cinema by offering a fresh perspective with its unique narrative. The film delves into the history of the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) and their exploitation by the British, blending elements of mystic realism and mythological aspects.

Directed by Pa. Ranjith, Thangalaan features Chiyaan Vikram and Malavika Mohanan in key roles. Released worldwide on August 15, 2024, in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, the film’s Hindi version premiered on August 30. The music is composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar.
