On the evening of August 22, 2024, Netflix’s “Sector 36” made its world premiere at the esteemed Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The screening was a highly anticipated affair, with star Vikrant Massey, who plays Prem Singh, present for the event. As the film concluded, the audience was left captivated, emotional, and stunned, highlighting the film’s compelling narrative and the impressive performances of the cast. The night was marked by enthusiastic applause and praise, establishing “Sector 36” as a standout feature of the festival. Directed by Aditya Nimbalkar, this gripping crime thriller is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and Jio Studios.
Addressing the festival audience, Vikrant Massey elaborated on his experience with the film and his role as Prem Singh. He remarked, “Discussing the preparation without revealing too much, this was one of the few films that truly tested me; it was very challenging. While I didn’t undergo a physical transformation, the mental and emotional demands of this film pushed me to my limits.”
Inspired by real events, “Sector 36” chronicles the unsettling story of children who vanish mysteriously from a slum in Sector 36. As the suspense builds, a tenacious police officer takes on a chilling investigation, facing off against a devious serial killer. Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal deliver riveting performances as Prem Singh, the elusive serial killer, and Ram Charan Pandey, the resolute officer, in this intense game of cat and mouse.
Regarding the film’s narrative and the importance of telling stories like “Sector 36,” Massey noted, “In the past decade, there has been a significant increase in realism in films. Cinema reflects society, and vice versa. With major platforms like Netflix, Indian cinema—which includes diverse regional films—is now creating content that is not just community-specific but universally relevant.” He added, “As storytellers, it’s crucial that these stories are told, whether by me or others. The goal is to ensure these stories are shared.”
Sector 36 releases on September 13th, exclusively on Netflix.
